According to the city, demolition will occur in two phases: the first on Friday, March 1, when the stacks will be brought down, followed by the boiler house on May 17. These dates may change due to weather conditions. Vehicle and pedestrian traffic will be briefly interrupted on Grosse Ile Parkway and West Jefferson Avenue during the demolition.

DTE said the demolition will last less than a minute on both days and that nearby neighbors could hear noises and feel vibrations.

The utility said they have a plan to manage the dust.

Trenton’s mayor discussed potential ways to redevelop the area after the demolition, noting plans to utilize about a third of the site for battery energy storage, which he said would significantly boost tax revenue for the city while ensuring minimal environmental disruption.

DTE will host a virtual town hall on February 22 about the project. More information on the demolition and the town hall can be found here.
