Wet weather to start the weekend before drying out for Mother's Day

Sunshine returns to the forecast by Sunday

Rain showers and a few thunderstorms are possible to start the weekend (WDIV)

4Warn Weather – After a dry end of the week, showers and a few thunderstorms are in the forecast looking ahead as we start Mother’s Day weekend.

We’re going to watch an area of low pressure and a cold front move through the region as we head throughout the day. Rain showers will start the day this morning, then we may get a brief break in the rain by midday before showers and a few thunderstorms are possible this afternoon and early this evening. The clouds will help keep temperatures down, high temperatures heading for the lower 60s by Saturday afternoon.

We will break up the cloud cover overnight tonight, and some Sunshine heads our way by the end of weekend on Sunday. Partly cloudy skies can be expected overnight tonight, and it will be chilly with overnight lows dropping into the 40s.

For Mother’s Day, we’re going to look for a mixture of sunshine and clouds heading our way, high temperatures a few degrees warmer as we are heading into lower 70s by Sunday afternoon.

Another low pressure will work through the region with a cold looking ahead into early next week. This cold front will stall across the region from late Monday and into Tuesday keeping the active weather into the forecast. Rain shower chances are expected both Monday and Tuesday thanks to this frontal boundary. High temperatures warming into the upper 70s on Monday, the dropping by 10° into the upper 60s by Tuesday afternoon.

High pressure builds back the middle of next week, mostly sunny skies can be expected. High temperatures heading for the lower 70s by Wednesday afternoon. The dry weather sticks around for Thursday with sunshine continuing and high temperatures remaining into the lower 70s.

Another chance of rain moves into the region by the end of next week. Mostly cloudy skies with those scattered rain showers, high temperatures heading into the middle 70s by Friday afternoon.

  • Saturday: Mostly cloudy skies. Rain showers likely. A few thunderstorms are possible as well. High: 62. Winds: Southwest 5-15 MPH with gusts as high as 25 MPH.
  • Saturday night: Decreasing clouds, skies becoming partly cloudy. Low: 46. Winds: Northwest 5-15 MPH with gusts as high as 25 MPH.
  • Sunday (Mother’s Day): Partly cloudy skies. Warmer and drier. High: 70. Winds: Southwest 5-15 MPH with gusts as high as 25 MPH.
  • Sunday night: Increasing clouds, skies becoming mostly cloudy. Low: 56. Winds: South 5-15 MPH.
  • Monday: Mostly cloudy skies, a chance of rain showers. High: 77.
