TEMPERANCE, Mich. – A Monroe County man plans to build a new house after he won a $150,000 prize from the Michigan Lottery.

Jonathon Kapus, 32, of Temperance, matched four white balls and the Powerball -- 22-27-44-52-69, PB: 09 -- during the April 6 drawing to win $50,000.

His winnings were multiplied by three thanks to the Power Play.

“I bought a Powerball ticket since the jackpot was over $1 billion,” Kapus said. “I saw an email from the lottery at 6 a.m. the morning after the drawing about claiming a prize. When I logged in to my account and saw I’d won $150,000, it felt unreal. I showed my wife, and she couldn’t believe what she was seeing.

“Winning such a large prize was very unexpected, but exciting. You always think ‘what if,’ but you never think it will actually happen to you, until it does.”

Kapus visited Michigan Lottery headquarters to claim his prize. He said he plans to put his winnings toward building a new house.
