The Red wings are oot (out) of the playoffs after a disappointing effort. The Pistons are lottery bound following a season that was more depressing than Lindsay Lohan's career arc. The Lions are all quiet for now and the tigers are just underway and a little underwhelming so far.
So why is it that the Detroit sports scene is sizzling? It's almost draft time, baby! The WWE is here in Detroit and the is Nicklas Lidtsrom staying or going game is just about to start.
Tuesday: The Red Wings will clean out their lockers and take a team photo at Joe Louis Arena. This will add closure to a season that had many ups and downs. A season that many thought would lead to a run deep into the playoffs. A season that ... ended too quickly. Now, the season that was will have it's final chapter closed out, but the Lidstorm future talk that was left with, to be continued ... last time he spoke will be revisited. I'm guessing we will hear him say, My family and I will take time and discuss it this summer - or something to that effect. I say, let's just get this over with. Make your choice and be done with it. If you're the Wings you need to offer him about half of what he makes now. If your Lidstrom, you probably need to say, it's not worth it. It's time for a new era in Red Wings hockey and this offseason's free agents make me drool.
Thursday: The NFL Draft (unfortunately) has been the highlight of the season for most Lions fans for decades here in Detroit. It still has some sex appeal to Lions fans, but the Lions are good now! They don't pick in the top 10. Picking anywhere after 20 means you were kind of good last year. We're cool. Anyway, round 1 is Thursday and many are amped up on the possibilities, but like I always say, what do we really know about these guys? The average fan doesn't know much of anything about any of these players after you get outside the top 10. If you do know something about the guys projected to be drafted later in the 1st round it's probably 2nd hand knowledge passed down by Todd McShay or Mel Kiper. The point is, what are we really hoping for? We want the best, but probably don't know who that is until the drafted players has a season under his belt. Let's play the football lotto and hope for the best. The draft offers hope. Here's to hoping. By the way, I'm with everyone on the Jonathan Martin pick. He's a tackle from Stanford.
As far as the WWE goes, it was here, now it's gone. Buh-bye. I hope everyone enjoyed fantasy time at Joe Louis.
Sports are awesome! Wrestling ... ummm ... it's like watching the smarter version of 'Jersey Shore'.
