Mobile Application Developer

The Role
- You know the future is in your pocket
- You are familiar with the SDKs and APIs necessary to write iOS and/or Android Apps
- You know when to code Native, HTML5, or Hybrid
- You understand the subtle differences between phones and tablets, as well as between iOS and Android
- You can work with a designer and a back end engineer to build something that is fast and polished enough that a user will reach into their pocket just to load it.
Qualifications
- Four year degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science or related discipline
- At least two years experience writing software for major mobile platforms (iPhone, RIM, Symbian, Windows Mobile, Android, etc)
- iPhone development experience with applications in the app store
- Experience with location-based services, GPS, etc. preferred

User Interface Developer

The Role
- You work with Javascript and CSS, but that doesn’t really tell the whole story
- You work with Visual Designers and Interaction Designers to make sure things look good and function intelligently but you own the technologies that make the pretty pixels fly
- You’ve worked with jquery or backbone.js or any number of other frameworks, and you probably have strong opinions
- Can communicate with technical and non-technical people alike, to show both technical command and functional command of what you are doing
- You’re an owner: once something is assigned to you, it is not just a task, it is a mission, and the end goal is to deliver something great that wows our customers
- You will have the opportunity to work with a variety of frameworks, and help decide which ones we use next
- Most of all, you care about online news and the future of journalism
Qualifications
- Ability to create an interface using JavaScript, HTML and CSS
- Experience with user interface and user experience (UX) design
- Solid understanding of the web technology stack (i.e. headers, cookies, cross-domain restrictions, https, caching, optimization opportunities, etc.)
- Demonstrable experience with cross-browser JS and CSS development
- Solid understanding of HTML5 tags -- functions and intent
- Has extensive experience with Multiple Javascript Libraries: JQuery, YUI, etc and knows the benefits and weaknesses using each library and when to leave them off the page
- Knows how helpful JSLint can be, sometimes
- Comfortable with server side templating languages (e.g. Python, Java, Ruby) and ability to dive into controller/view code when required
- Plays with new technologies, localStorage, geolocation, CSS transitions and transformations
- Thinks they can design the next best mobile Web app

Responsibilities
Work closely with reporting staff shooting news/sports stories for daily newscasts. Individual must have good news
sense while working in the field, with the ability to work well under pressure while meeting deadlines. Individual must
be able to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Highly motivated individual with previous News Photography experience who can work independently. Strong
news style photography, lighting, production, and non-linear editing skills required. Operational knowledge
of microwave truck. At least 2 years previous News Photography experience with professional broadcast equipment.
Valid Michigan Drivers License and clean driving record.

Design/Creative Services/Digital Development Trainee
Responsibilities
The trainee works in the Creative Services, Design and Digital Development departments at WDIV-TV.
A trainee is exposed to television production and how graphic design applies to that medium. Motion graphics are the core of the trainee’s experience. He or she will create material for on-air broadcasts and websites on a daily basis. Most experience involves creating both still and animated designs to support our daily newscasts and local programming. The trainee will also create design material for our websites and help in the production of promotional spots with our promotion team.
Note: The position has a duration of 12 months. There is no guarantee of subsequent employment with Post-Newsweek Stations.
Qualifications
A graphic design background is expected. Significant experience with Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects is required. Experience with Flash and Final Cut Pro is desirable. Knowledge of 3D computer graphics is a big plus. Prefer applicants with a degree from an accredited design program or working toward one.

Responsibilities
Video Journalist must have the ability to originate, research, write, shoot, produce and edit stories and be an excellent storyteller. Candidate must possess strong written and communication skills and have the ability to report on a wide range of stories. Stories

PROMOTIONS
Promotion Writer/Producer (Part-time)
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include but are not limited to writing and producing and editing on-air promos for news, station image, syndicated programs, web, radio and print, in addition to scheduling promos in daily logs and coordinating and tagging syndicated programs. Strong creative writing and production talents are essential as well as the ability to work imaginatively in-house and in the field on tight deadlines. Must be highly organized and efficient.

ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT
Senior IT Network
Responsibilities
The Senior IT Network Administrator will be responsible for supporting and maintaining the station and corporate IT environment. The environment contains a blend of Windows Servers, Windows Professional workstations, MAC workstations, WAN, LAN, VPN, Microsoft Exchange 2010 Server, Active Directory, Linux / Unix, Multicast, Unicast, VOIP, and IP video streaming. Extensive knowledge and experience in support enterprise-wide network best practices as well as network security protocols. In addition, desktop computer support and Cisco and Brocade layer 3 switches. Software application experience in Windows programming in .Net, video file conversion, Great Plains financial application, and VOIP phone system. This individual should have a high level of initiative and will assume responsibility for helpdesk support services, as well as preform hardware, software and network troubleshooting in a timely and effective manner.
Experience in broadcast systems is definitely a plus. These technologies include Video Servers, Automation Systems, Nonlinear Editing Systems, IPTV, Firewalls, and Routers
Qualifications
Bachelors degree in a computing or engineering program preferred. Minimum 5 years of solid networking experience. Formal training in IT or a related field. Excellent communications skills, both verbal written. Ability to work independently and support team responsibilities and be able to work under stressful conditions with a sense of urgency. MCSE (Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert) and experience in broadcast systems is definitely a plus. Work experience includes: enterprise network design and support, network security protocols, high-availability fault-tolerant distributed storage systems, Firewalls & IDS (Cisco),VPN (Cisco/Juniper), Routers and Switches (Cisco/HP/ 3Com/Brocade), Linux and UNIX, Windows Workstation and Exchange 2010 system design and administration, Active Directory group policy management and integration using ldap and kerberos, virtualized servers (VmWare).
