Tire Warranties Can Take Bite Out Of Potholes
Some New Cars Also Offer Tire Protection Plans

It's happening all over metro Detroit. Drivers are experiencing flat tires or cracked rims. Welcome to pothole season in Michigan.
Most insurance policies don't cover these accidents and drivers can face hundreds of dollars in repairs.
Now there are new warranties designed to take the financial shock out of potholes.
"(We) see anywhere from six to ten cars a day come in here with impact breaks on the tire where a bubble forms, cracked wheels, bent wheels, suspension damage," said Pat Stocking, a local Belle Tire manager.
Belle Tire is one place that is offering a road hazard warranty on new tires. For $6, or about 10 percent of a tire's cost, the driver is covered for 12,000 miles.
The average customer is going to have a flat once every two years as a nation wide average.
"I've had customers recently with as many as three or four in the last four months," said Stocking.
On new cars, some dealers are offering packages of wheel insurance that includes tires, wheels and rims.
Policies cost from $300 to $500 depending on the model of car or truck, but that covers all four wheels for five years. Tires or rims are replaced free of charge, including labor and taxes.
Towing charges can be covered up to $50.
If a car is equipped with ultra-thin high performance tires or custom wheels and rims, coverage may be more expensive or maybe not available at all.
If you drive a lot of miles and over hazardous roads, the warranties are worth considering.
