Class action lawsuit filed against GM over diesel emissions

DETROIT – A class action lawsuit was filed Thursday against General Motors and Bosche over diesel emissions in Silverado and Sierra HD vehicles.

According to the suit, GM claimed its engineers had accomplished a “remarkable reduction of diesel emissions” in its Duramax engines but that emissions testing revealed the Sierra and Silverado models emit levels higher than the EPA maximum standards and levels set for the vehicles to obtain a certificate of compliance to be sold in the U.S.

General Motors released the following statement:

“These claims are baseless and we will vigorously defend ourselves. The Duramax Diesel Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra comply with all U.S. EPA and CARB emissions regulations.”

The lawsuit alleges that trucks with Duramax diesel engines have three devices that are rigged to allow more pollution on the road than during treadmill tests.

Diesel engines have been under scrutiny since Volkswagen admitted that its diesel cars cheated on tests.

The suit also claims Bosch was an "active and knowing participant in the scheme."
