Trump slams GM on Twitter for Mexican-made Chevy Cruze

GM responds 'small number sold in U.S.'

DETROIT – President-elect Donald Trump took to Twitter Tuesday morning with a statement against General Motors' Mexican-made Chevrolet Cruze.

He threatened a higher border tax for the automaker.

Here's the tweet:

General Motors said a small number of the Cruze hatchbacks made in Mexico are sold in the U.S. The Cruze sedan is built in Ohio, GM said.

The automaker released this statement:

General Motors manufacturers the Chevrolet Cruze sedan in Lordstown, Ohio. All Chevrolet Cruze sedans sold in the U.S. are built in GM's assembly plant in Lordstown, Ohio. GM builds the Chevrolet Cruze hatchback for global markets in Mexico, with a small number sold in the U.S.
