New train rail car to be displayed Friday at Green Fair

Train cars feature double decks

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Michigan's new commuter train rail car is getting a special unveiling on Friday, June 14, at 6 p.m. on Main Street in downtown Ann Arbor at the 13th annual Green Fair.

The new double-decker train will be parked on the tracks at First Street and William Street.

At this unveiling, guests will be able to board the cars and tour both levels.

The once Metra bi-level gallery train cars were refurbished by the Great Lakes Central Railroad.

This special unveiling was made possible by Ann Arbor Railroad, Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority, Ann Arbor Transportation Authority, City of Ann Arbor, Great Lakes Central Railroad, Michigan Department of Transportation - Office of Rail and the Southeast Michigan Council of Governments.

The new cars will have American with Disabilities Act accessible lifts and bicycle storage areas as well.

The train will serve the rail lines between Ann Arbor to Detroit or Ann Arbor to Howell.

The Green Fair will include many other events that celebrate the community's environmental leadership as exhibited by citizens, nonprofits, government and businesses.

The Green Commute Area at the fair will showcase a variety of ordinary and innovative sustainable transportation choices including commuter trains, AATA buses and Zipcars and bikes
