University Park, PA -- (Sports Network) - Mike Hart ran for 112 yards and a touchdown as fourth-ranked Michigan bested Penn State, 17-10, at Beaver Stadium.Chad Henne completed 15-of-30 passes for the Wolverines (7-0, 4-0 Big 10), who remained undefeated and upped their record to 9-3 against Penn State. Adrian Arrington had five receptions for 83 yards and a TD, while Steve Breaston also had five receptions for 79 yards. Anthony Morelli completed 11-of-18 passes for 133 yards for the Nittany Lions (4-3, 2-2), who lost for the first time in three games. The Nittany Lions quarterback was knocked from the game early in the third quarter after what appeared to be a helmet-to-helmet hit from Alan Branch and did not return. His status is unknown. Tony Hunt rushed for 33 yards and added another 85 receiving yards with a touchdown. After a scoreless first quarter, Michigan finally broke through in the second. Henne capped a 10-play, 75-yard march by finding Arrington on a deep slant pattern for a 25-yard score with 11:13 remaining in the half. The Wolverines defense continued to dominate and consecutive sacks on Morelli forced another Penn State punt, which gave Michigan the ball at the 50 and the Wolverines went right to work. After Hart rushed three straight times for 14 yards, Henne found Arrington again, this time for a 27-yard gain down to the Nittany Lions nine-yard line. Penn State's defense stiffened from there but Garrett Rivas booted a 23-yard field goal to give the Wolverines a 10-0 edge with just over five minutes left before the half. The Nittany Lions took advantage of a big pass interference call against Michigan late in the half to get on the scoreboard. The penalty kept a drive going and Kevin Kelly's 22-yard field goal with 15 ticks left in the half made it 10-3. Hart's 1-yard touchdown run late in the third quarter gave Michigan a commanding 17-3 edge, but the Wolverines were threatened late after Hunt turned a simple screen pass from third-string quarterback Paul Ciancolo into a 43- yard touchdown. Michigan was forced to punt on its next drive, but Ciancolo could not pull off the miracle. A fourth-down incomplete pass sealed the deal with a minute left and kept Michigan in the National Title hunt. Game Notes The game pitted two of the nation's winningest active NCAA Division I-A coaches: Penn States Joe Paterno has 358 in his 41 years at the helm of the Nittany Lions for second place, while Michigans Lloyd Carr now has 109 victories in 12 seasons with the Wolverines for 24th place...Henne has tossed 12 touchdowns in his last five contests...The crowd of 110,007 was the second largest in Penn State history.
