NCAA Game Summary - Miami-Ohio At Michigan

POSTED: Saturday, September 6, 2008

(Sports Network) - The Michigan Wolverines pounded out 178 rushing yards en route to a hard-fought 16-6 victory over the Miami-Ohio RedHawks in non-league play at Michigan Stadium.

Sam McGuffie led the way for Michigan (1-1) with 74 yards on 17 carries, while Michael Shaw added another 45 yards on just two totes. Quarterback Steven Threet only threw for 63 yards, but the signal caller added 26 yards and one touchdown on the ground.

Daniel Raudabaugh completed 20-of-33 passes for 191 yards in the loss for Miami-Ohio (0-2). Thomas Merriweather led the ground attack for the RedHawks, as the tailback rumbled for 77 yards on 21 carries.

The Wolverines jumped out to an early 7-0 lead when Threet rumbled into the end zone from nine yards out.

Less than two minutes later Michigan pushed its advantage to 10-0 with a 47- yard field goal by K. C. Lopata.

The only points posted in the second quarter came off the foot of Nathan Parseghian who booted a 27-yard field goal to send the RedHawks into the break down 10-3.

Perseghian added a 23-yard field goal midway through the third frame to cut the RedHawks' deficit to 10-6.

In the final frame the Wolverines used a seven-play, 86-yard drive which was capped off by a 15-yard touchdown run by Brandon Minor. Unfortunately the extra point was no good for Michigan, leaving the score at 16-6 in favor of the Wolverines.

However, the missed extra point did not matter, as the Wolverines shut down the RedHawks for the remainder of the contest en route to a 10-point win.
