Group Hopes To Keep Belle Isle Aquarium Open
Budget Cuts To Close Detroit Landmark

Friends of the Belle Isle Aquarium met Wednesday night in Ferndale to discuss ways to keep the landmark from closing.
About 50 people attended the meeting held at the Coffee Beanery on Woodward Avenue, according to Local 4. The group is trying to raise money to keep the aquarium open.
The aquarium is scheduled to close in 30 days as part of a massive budget cut in the city of Detroit. Officials say closing the facility will save the city more than $530,000 in annual expenses and millions in capital needed to keep the structure sound.
