VETERANS DAY

Veterans Honored In Sterling Heights Ceremony

Gov. Granholm Attends Events In Wayland, Dearborn

POSTED: 3:42 pm EST November 11, 2005

Dozens of veterans and their families gathered in Sterling Heights Friday morning to remember U.S. military personnel on Veterans Day.

A ceremony was held at Sterling Heights City Hall, located at Dodge Park and Utica roads, at 11 a.m. The city lowered flags to half staff in honor of all U.S. veterans who lost their lives in war.

Citizens who attended the ceremony issued a reminder to everyone that freedom in the United States is owed to veterans.

Korean War veteran Don Bouffard said he often talks to his grandchildren about how easy it is now to communicate with others through the use of a telephone.

"When we were in the service, it was awful tough to just talk to somebody a block away," said Bouffard.

Another ceremony was scheduled for 3 p.m. at Freedom Hill in Sterling Heights.

Michigan Gov. Jennifer Granholm was scheduled to attend Veterans Day events in Wayland, Mich., and Dearborn, Mich.
