DETROIT -

Detroit radio station 98.7 AMP Radio and Gleaners Community Food Bank are teaming up to collect food for the holidays across metro Detroit.

The radio station said it wants to ensure that even if times are tough, every local family has a wonderful Thanksgiving feast.

On-air personalities will broadcast their shows live from various food collection points across the metro Detroit area.

"This event is very special to us," said Coop, of The Coop Show. "Everyone deserves to celebrate the holidays with a table full of good food and the 98.7 AMP crew is proud to help local families enjoy this special time of year."

Non-perishable food items will be sent to Gleaners Community Food Bank, where event organizers said low-income families will be able to get the necessary items to have a delicious holiday dinner.

The food collection points across the area are:

--Thus, Nov. 14: Value Center Market in Livonia (27428 Six Mile Road)

--Fri, Nov. 15: Value Center Market in Clinton Township (37155 Harper Avenue)

--Sat, Nov. 16: Value Center Market in Madison Heights (1485 W Fourteen Mile Road)

--Sun, Nov. 17: Neiman's Family Market in Clarkston (7121 Dixie Hwy)

Last year, organizers said 4 tons of food was collected, and their goal for this year is 8 tons. Food will be collected Thursday through Sunday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The station said it has also teamed up with Premier Relocations who supply Mayflower moving trucks, so all food will be loaded on to the trucks before heading to Gleaners. Other sponsors of the event include Community Financial Credit Union.
