In 2008, a group of young professionals created the Second Helping Afterglow event in the hope of getting the next generation involved with the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.

Co-organizer Shiela Jones explains, "We realized all the good that the Capuchin Soup Kitchen does for our community and we wanted to create a fun event for Detroit's younger crowd that would support all the good work of the soup kitchen.  In the five years of the event, we have raised thousands of dollars.  It's an evening that allows Detroit's young professionals to help others."

The event will again be emceed by Fox 2's Roop Raj.  "Boogie Dynamite" will be providing the entertainment.

The event will follow the 40th  annual SOCK (Support Our Capuchin Kitchen) dinner which will be held earlier in the evening at the Detroit Marriott Renaissance Center.

Tickets can be purchased on-line www.secondhelping.org  Or call, 313.579.2100, ext. 153.  All profit benefits the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.

Founded in 1929, the Capuchin Soup Kitchen serves Metro Detroit by providing food, clothing, and counsel to those in need.  Frequently preparing and serving 2,000 meals a day, the Capuchin Soup Kitchen also distributes household items and operates a shower program, food pantry, and children's tutoring and art therapy program. Its Earthworks Urban Farm produces vegetables for Detroit's hungry, and educates the community in regards to sustainable relationships between human beings and the earth. The soup kitchen's ROPE (Reaching Our Potential Everyday) ministry is designed to assist individuals "re-entering" society after bouts of incarceration or substance abuse. ROPE's first social enterprise is the "On the Rise Bakery."

The soup kitchen is a ministry of the Province of St. Joseph of the Capuchin Order, which is headquartered in Detroit and serves Capuchin ministries worldwide. www.CSKDetroit.org    www.TheCapuchins.org
