Art Institute opens Holiday Market Saturday
One-day 'Treats, Beats and Art Fair' offers gift ideas
Holiday gift giving can get stressful, but students of The Art Institute of Michigan have pooled their talents to make it easier with their presentation of the Treats, Beats and Art Fair on Saturday, Nov. 17.
The college's Holiday Market features student-crafted goods ranging from $5 to $25, with proceeds directly benefitting student clubs and The Education Foundation scholarship fund, event organizers said.
The institute is holding the event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 28175 Cabot Drive in Novi.
Students will be on-hand to present their masterful works and to provide Market attendees with gift ideas and tips for replicating similar decorative pieces at home.
Seasonal wreaths, carved ornaments, candle decorations, monogrammed stemware, organic beauty products and dried fruit mixes are among the Holiday Market's highlights.
The family-friendly event has plenty of activities to keep kids busy as parents shop, including henna tattoo stations, hair and face painting booths, pumpkin carving demonstrations and a cake walk activity.
Photography students will be on-hand to capture family portraits in the studio, available via email for reprint and ideal for holiday cards, at a minimal cost of $5.
Complimentary light hors d'oeuvres, snacks, desserts and refreshments prepared by students of The International Culinary School at The Art Institute of Michigan will keep shoppers satisfied while browsing hand-crafted items, event organizers said.
Market attendees are encouraged to enjoy a culinary break while viewing "Michigan Couture" -- a fashion design showcase of garments created using Michigan made brands like Big Boy, Little Caesars, Kellogg, the Detroit Free Press newspaper and more - in the college's lobby.
The Holiday Market marks The Art Institute of Michigan's five year anniversary celebration, commemorated with a wood piece dedication unveiling and the grand opening of the college's audio studio.
