Service men and women will be honored in Canton on Veterans Day.
The Salute to Service ceremony will be held at The Village Theater located on 50400 Cherry Hill Road on Sunday, Nov. 11th.
The celebration will honor active duty military personnel and veterans.
The event is free to the public and doors open at 2 p.m. An exhibit of military memorabilia can be viewed prior to the main presentation at 3 p.m.
Author Robert H. Miller who wrote "Hidden Hell: Discovering My Father’s POW Diary" will discuss his latest book, "Portraits of Service" which honors veterans from five different wars.
"The book is more than a keepsake," said Miller. "It is an enduring account of the men and women in uniform who serve and protect our ideal of freedom. Their stories must be told and revered for generations to come."
The Patton Foundation will donate a portion of the net profits from the sale of Miller's book to veterans and their families through organizations such as Final Salute Inc., Wounded Warrior Project and the American Military Family Association.
In addition to the presentation, items will be collected for the Michigan Military Moms, including: hand and foot warmers, beef jerky; Q-tips; packs of candy or gum that doesn't melt; candy canes; Santa hats; holiday stockings; tree garland; and Detroit sports team items.
