DETROIT -

A Detroit church hosted its annual Law Enforcement Appreciation and Prayer Day on Sunday.

Police officers, military personnel, firefighters, federal agents and others were invited to attend service at Greater Grace Temple.

Wayne County Sheriff Benny Napoleon was one of the special guests along with the family of West Bloomfield police Officer Patrick O'Rourke, who was killed in the line of duty.

Greater Grace first held "Law Enforcement Appreciation Day" in 1999. Bishop Charles Ellis III says the church wants to let law enforcement officers "know their work is appreciated."

The service concluded with officers taking part in an "anointing ceremony," which symbolizes the conferring of God's authority and protection upon their lives.
