Foreclosure help event for homeowners to be held Sept. 4-6

DETROIT – The United Way for Southeastern Michigan has teamed up with community agencies to hold a foreclosure event for homeowners in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties.

The homeowner awareness phone event encourages those who need it to dial 2-1-1 to schedule an appointment to speak with a counselor. The event will be held Sept. 4-6, 2012 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

How the process will work:

Homeowners who dial 2-1-1 will be provided with information regarding the benefits of working with a housing counselor and given the option to schedule an appointment to talk with a counselor

If a homeowner does not want to schedule an appointment, he or she will be provided with referrals to housing counseling agencies that he or she can call directly

If a homeowner wants to speak with a counselor, he or she will be scheduled for a call back that will occur within 24 to 48 hours

Who needs help?

The event is designed to reach the following homeowners in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties with resources and assistance -  

  • Homeowners at risk of mortgage foreclosure

  • Homeowners considering strategic default/walking away

  • Homeowners who are in the redemption period

  • Homeowners who are unemployed or underemployed

  • Homeowners who are concerned that they may have been scammed

  • Homeowners who have questions about refinancing their mortgages
