Discounts offered to those who have served our country

DETROIT – Several restaurants and attractions are offering free or discounted deals in honor of Veterans Day.

Restaurants in Madison Heights and Sterling Heights invite military veterans and active duty military from around the area to enjoy a FREE lunch in celebration of Veteran's Day. Every Texas Roadhouse location across the country will participate in the free lunch event to honor the men and women of our armed forces.
All veterans including all active, retired or former U.S. military can choose one of 10 entrees, including a 6-ounce sirloin and two made-from-scratch sides plus a choice of any Coca-Cola product, sweet tea/ice tea or coffee during lunch. To participate, you must provide proof of service including military or VA card, or discharge papers.
Free meal for military personnel only; free meal offer does not include spouses or other family members.

Applebee's:

Applebee's will honor our nation's bravest by offering veterans free meals on Friday, Nov. 11 and by hosting a gift card drive the following weekend.
"We are so proud of our veteran neighbors," said Mark Higgins, Applebee's area director in Michigan. "Providing them with free meals and collecting gift cards to donate to the Detroit VA Hospital is our way of saying thank you to those who have given us so much."
The Veterans Day menu will include some of Applebee's signature and favorite items, including the 7 oz. House Sirloin, Bacon Cheeseburger, Three Cheese Chicken Penne, Chicken Tenders Platter, Oriental Chicken Salad, Fiesta Lime Chicken and Double Crunch Shrimp.
Additionally, guests who purchase $50 gift cards will receive a bonus $10 gift card, with the opportunity to donate the bonus card to the Detroit VA Hospital for distribution.

Guests will need to provide proof of service, which includes: U.S. Uniform Services Identification Card, U.S. Uniform Services Retired Identification Card, Current Leave and Earnings Statement, Veterans Organization Card, photograph in uniform or wearing uniform, DD214, Citation or Commendation.

7-Eleven:

As part of a Veteran's Day salute and to honor active military service personnel on this special day, the retailer will offer slurpees on base, and free, small slurpee drinks will be given to active, veteran and retired members of the military and their immediate families at participating 7-Eleven stores on 11/11/11, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Customers will also have the opportunity to purchase donation cards for $1 that will benefit the USO and help send care packages to military personnel overseas. The donation cards will be available from Nov. 1 - 30.

The Henry Ford :

The Henry Ford will honor the heroes who serve, have served and those who support them. As a thank you, all veterans, active-duty military and their immediate family members will receive free admission to Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village and the Ford Rouge Factory Tour. The Henry Ford expresses immense gratitude for their sacrifice and service in times of war and peace.
Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village and the Ford Rouge Factory Tour are open from 9:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The last bus leaves the museum for the Factory Tour at 3:00 p.m. For more information, please call 313-982-6001. This does not include rides in Greenfield Village or IMAX movies.
