After more than 60 miles over three days, the 1,100 people who participated in the 2012 Susan G. Komen Michigan 3-Day have raised more than $3.2 million for breast cancer research, scientific programs and community-based breast health and education programs.
“We are so thankful for Michigan’s continued support of our mission to end breast cancer,” said Sheri Phillips, national spokesperson for the Susan G. Komen 3-Day. “This is our ninth successful event in Michigan and we are excited to announce the Komen 3-Day will return to this amazing city for the 2013 Series.”
The 3-Day is a life-changing experience that commenced months ago when participants began their training and fundraising efforts in their local communities. After embarking on their journey Friday, participants spent the weekend walking 60 miles through Michigan communities and camped two nights at Greenmead Historic Site. Earlier today, these women and men concluded their three-day journey with a powerful Closing Ceremony at Ford World Headquarters.
Komen funds more breast cancer research than any other nonprofit—$740 million to date.
