All Girls Matter Pageant held at Flat Rock Riverfest

Miss Downriver Program hosts special event to emphasized message all girls matter

FLAT ROCK, Mich. – The Miss Downriver Program hosted a special event Saturday that emphasized the message that all girls matter.

At the Flat Rock Riverfest, young women with special needs participated in a non-competitive pageant.

The event gave the young women a chance to experience a typical pageant environment they otherwise might not be able to.

Current Miss Downriver Mollie Smith remembers how special her pageant experience was to her.

"But for these girls, just to get up there, memories that will last a lifetime," said Smith.

Every girl in Saturday's pageant performed an opening number, modeled a nice dress and was given a crown and flowers.

Most of the dresses were donated by the community, and the girls were pampered with having their hair, makeup and nails done.
