New book displays current art scene in Detroit

Canvas Detroit a new hardcover by authors Julie Pincus & Nichole Christian, presents the current and evolving Detroit art scene in all its glory. A proper book release party was held Wednesday inside the Detroit Institute of Art's Kresge Court, where Pincus and Christian spoke about the book and signed copies. People bought copies of the book, mingled and enjoyed appetizers while looking over their new copy.

"The attraction to Detroit was simple. It was vast, affordable, and there was virtually nobody to stop artists from creating moments of sheer brilliance out of the distress. Grant money began flowing into the artists’ hands, and they responded in the best way they knew how—they transformed it into beauty." — Julie Pincus
