Charter Academy to hold ribbon cutting

Andre Agassi leads tour of new school

DETROIT – The new Southwest Detroit Lighthouse Charter Academy will hold their ribbon cutting Tuesday at 9:30 a.m.

Tennis champion Andre Agassi will be there to be a part of the celebration at the school which is located at 4001 29th Street in Detroit.

The tour will be lead by Agassi and other VIP dignitaries who will show off the newest investment by the Canyon-Agassi Charter School Facilities Fund (CACSFF).

The CACSFF is an innovative and unique investment fund that is creating facilities for high-achieving charter schools all throughout the U.S.

Immediately after the tour will be the formal ribbon cutting and speaking program.

The new charter school is one of the only of its kind in the nation with a newly constructed, modern and spacious facility, aiming to provide up to 30,000 school seats over the next three years.

The academy currently serves 300 kindergarten through fifth grade students but will eventually grown to serve 475 students through 12th grade.

The Lighthouse Academies was founded in 2003 and is a growing network of 20 arts-infused charter schools with 7,200 students.

The network prepares students for college through rigorous academics and social development, highlighting skills including persistence, personal organization and empathy.
