Detroit church to receive Casual Day funds for steeple repair

St. Josaphat Church steeple damaged by wind

DETROIT – The St. Josaphat Church in Detroit will be among the recipients of Oakland County employee Casual Day donations this year.

The steeple of the church, which has been an iconic part of of the Detroit skyline for more than a century, received hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of damage from wind damage in November.

Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson will hand out checks Wednesday from the Casual Day fund to 17 Southeast Michigan organizations which improve the quality of life in the community.

The event will take place at 2 p.m. at the lobby of the Oakland County Executive Office building at 2100 Pontiac Lake Road in Waterford.

No taxpayer money is used in the Casual Day fund. County employees in participating departments and divisions donate a minimum of $1 on designated Casual Days in order to wear jeans to work.
