Summer has officially begun at the Belle Isle Aquarium

Summer has officially started on Belle Isle as the famous Koi at the Aquarium were transferred back into the Koi Pond located between the Aquarium and Conservatory. This annual event keeps getting bigger and bigger every year, and more and more people show up to get a chance to transfer a Koi from the basement of the Aquarium to the pond.

The event ran from 10am to 3pm and despite the transfer only lasting around a half hour, people stuck around to sit by the pond and enjoy free hot dogs, chips, water and pop. The Koi range from new fish that are a few years old to "Moe" the largest Koi who is estimated to be between 85-90 years old. The state/DNR have nothing to do with the Aquarium, no matter because Vance Patrick and his crew have completely turned the place around and made change by leaps and bounds and their accomplishments are only getting bigger each year.
