Ford Motor Company and The Parade Company are teaming up for one of the nation’s largest free fireworks displays.
The famous Detroit fireworks will now be called The Ford Fireworks presented by Target.
The event’s new name reflects lead sponsorship of the fireworks by Ford. The help from Ford and Target will make this event free for the entire region.
The show is in its 55th year and will take place on June 24th at 10:06 p.m. on the Detroit River.
On Wednesday, Detroit Mayor Dave Bing will address the media about security measures being taken to keep people who attend the Detroit tradition safe. The press conference will be broadcast live on ClickOnDetroit.com beginning at 10 a.m.
The Parade Company will bring in Zambelli Fireworks Internationale to feature more than 10,000 pyrotechnic effects visible for miles along the Detroit River.
This year’s show will be choreographed by the world-renowned Patrick Brault, who has designed pyrotechnic displays internationally, including the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
The Ford Fireworks presented by Target can be viewed on Local 4’s live broadcast beginning at 8 p.m. on June 24th.
In 2011, Ford also became the official vehicle of America’s Thanksgiving Parade.
