DETROIT -

Detroit PAL's largest girl sport program, made up of 8- to 14-year-old girls, will hold its 27th annual Cheer Competition on Sunday.

The competition will showcase the tumbling, cheering and dancing skills that will be judged and scored.

Spectators will include Detroit PAL's 24 football organizations, parents and volunteers who love the sport of cheering.

The non-profit organization says the girls cheer throughout the season for their football teams, and the event serves as a dedication to their sport and highlight the positive impact the sport of cheer has on young girls to help them become women of high character of our future.

This event also coincides with Detroit PAL's Girl's Initiative Campaign implemented this year to try and get more young girls more involved and engaged in sports.

Tickets are $4 in advance sold at the Detroit PAL office. On the day of the event, the organization said tickets are $5 at the door. Kids 5 and under are free.

Doors will open at 9 a.m. and free parking will be available. The event will take place Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. inside Calihan Hall at the University of Detroit Mercy Campus, located at 4001 McNichols Rd. W.
