ROYAL OAK, Mich. - Visitors will have more time to check out the inhabitants of the Detroit Zoo over the Labor Day weekend.
The zoo in suburban Royal Oak says it'll now be open until 8 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. On Labor Day Monday, the zoo will close at the regular time of 5 p.m. It opens daily at 9 a.m.
Detroit Zoological Society Executive Director Ron Kagan says officials "want to give the community extra time to enjoy" the "many new and exciting things to see and do at" the zoo.
The zoo's paid attractions such as the Tauber Family Railroad and the Carousel also will remain open late during the weekend.
