TROY, Mich. -

Dog lovers and advocates are invited to attend Doggy Con, a family oriented event for dog lovers during the day and a red carpet movie screening at night.

It all happens at Motion Picture Institute in Troy, on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Those of all ages are invited to three sound stages at Motion Picture Institute to participate in a free awareness event, with dog adoption, demonstrations, guest speakers, pet suppliers, groomers and vendors of all kinds.

This event is open to the public, and is family oriented. Organizers said there will be activities for kids, food and dog-friendly activities for man's best friend.

In the evening, event organizers said the mood turns to a more adult themed red-carpet fundraising screening of "The Dog Fighter; MMA's Animal Rights Hero," a documentary about a retired MMA fighter who spreads awareness to end the illegal dog fighting epidemic plaguing Detroit.

Celebrities involved in animal awareness will also be present, and officials said a percentage of all proceeds will go to a local adoption center.

Motion Picture Institute will collect pet food and toys to donate as well.
