WALLED LAKE, Mich. - When Jacob Pesta was five years old he was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor.
Since then he has endured two craniotomies, proton radiation, chemotherapy treatment, and two set backs that left him with neurological side effects.
According to the Center for Disease Control, Jacob's type of tumor is the first to be reported in the U. S. and only one of seven in the world.
His mother describes the day she found out Jacob was sick, "Things were very normal for our family. Life was moving along as it does, enjoying summer vacations and looking forward to some exciting new milestones for both our children. Our son Jacob was going to start Kindergarten at Commerce Elementary until the dreadful day of August 4, 2009 when he was suddenly diagnosed with a very rare, aggressive Thalamic Brain Tumor."
Now at the age of eight Jacob is beating the odds and despite the obstacles in his young life, Jacob continues to be brave in the face of his life threatening disease.
September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month and on Friday the 14th Local 4's own, Ashlee Baracy will join Jacob's family, friends and supporters at the Edgewood County Club for Rockin' the D on the Runway.
The event starts at 7 p.m. in Commerce and features a runway fashion show, live entrainment and a silent auction.
