Chase to invest $1.5M for Detroit Schools programs
Money will be used to make schools community hubs
JPMorgan Chase will give $1.5 million in grants to agencies and groups to improve services and neighborhood revitalization around three southwest Detroit public schools.
Officials announced the investments Monday and say the money supports programs to make the schools community hubs.
Southwest Solutions will get $1 million over three years to expand an economic stability program for families at Harms and Maybury elementary schools and Western International High School, to launch neighborhood preservation and home repair loan programs and other services.
The remaining $500,000 will go toward job training for youth and parents, financial literacy and other programs.
A state Human Services caseworker also will be placed in Western High School as a "success coach" to work with students, staff and parents on issues inside and outside of the school.
