Fundraiser for fallen Westland firefighter May 16th

Owners of businesses destroyed in strip mall fire want to help raise money for Brian Woehlke's family

The owners of the two businesses destroyed by the fire, that claimed the life of Westland firefighter, want to help the fallen man's family.

Westland firefighter Brian Woehlke died in the fire that broke out at a strip mall on Wayne Road on May 8th.

The fire quickly spread, destroying the Electric Stick pool hall and Marvaso's Italian Grill. Woehlke, 29, went missing in the fire after a mayday call was heard.

His body was later found in the debris. Woehlke is survived by his wife, Jennifer, and 13-month-old daughter, Ava.

The owners of Marvaso and the Electric Stick have teamed up with the St. Damian Parish to raise money for Woehlke's family.

The fundraiser will be held Thursday, May 16th from 6:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. inside the St. Damian Parish's gym and community room.

St. Damian Parish is located at 30055 Joy Road in Westland between Middlebelt and Merriman roads. Donations are $20.00 per adult and $5 for children 12 and under, and includes food and soft drinks.

There event will host a silent auction, jelly jar raffles, DJ, 50/50 raffles, face painting, bounce house and more.

Donations are being accepted for the auction and raffles and they can be dropped off at the parish center from 8:00 a.m.- 4:00p.m. by Wednesday.
