Cranbrook to offer public viewing of meteorite collection

BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. – Cranbrook Institute of Science is offering the opportunity to see and touch some of the meteorites from its collection on Saturday, Feb. 16.

A geologist will be on hand to answer question about the meteorites which are not usually on view to the public.

"Since the meteor explosion over Russia was reported earlier today, our visitors have had questions about meteors and where they come from," said John Zawiskie, geologist, Cranbrook Institute of Science. "Sharing some of our specimens will enable visitors to see and touch actual meteorites and learn more about them."

The meteorite viewing at Cranbrook is from 1-2 p.m. and is free with admission to the institute.

Cranbrook is located at 39221 Woodward Avenue in Bloomfield Hills, and is open Tues.-Thurs. 10 a.m.-5 p.m., with extended hours on Fri. and Sat.
