McLaren Oakland Foundation offers free sports physicals at Pontiac health fair

Foundation hosts 8th annual Children's Sports Health Fair on Saturday

PONTIAC, Mich. – Oakland County youth ages 18 and under can receive free sports physicals for the next school year by attending Saturday's 8th annual Children's Sports Health Fair.

The McLaren Oakland Foundation, alongside McLaren Oakland ER physicians, will host the fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 20.

Aside from receiving free physicals, the organization says students will also learn important nutritional information to improve their physical endurance and sports performance while taking part in athletic activities.

During last year's event, the foundation said nearly 100 Oakland County youth received free sports physicals. The McLaren Oakland Foundation supplied each child with back-to-school supplies and giveaways were distributed throughout the day.

"This event couldn't have come at a better time," said Emma Wilson of Pontiac, who attended with her granddaughter.

Having had a rough year financially, Wilson said she regards the event as a blessing.

"I believe that when you continue to live with a servant's heart no matter what, God will look out for you," Wilson said. "Now I just have to play it forward."

The event will feature games, prizes, food and live music. Live positive music will be provided by QTMC (Quest To Make A Change).

Event organizers said a parent or legal guardian must accompany all children under the age of 18.

The McLaren Oakland Foundation, McLaren Oakland Children's Health Services, McLaren Oakland ER Physicians, Genisys Credit Union, and Comerica Bank are sponsoring this event.

The event will be held at McLaren Oakland Children's Health Services, located at 673 Martin Luther King Boulevard in Pontiac. Click here to learn more or call 248-334-0024.
