Papou is being produced by Michael Sinanis and Christos Moisides and directed by Michael Angelo Zervos.   Zervos, 24, penned the story of Papou.

He said in a statement that it's his "intention is to create a film that does more than entertain for a day. The importance of the ability to captivate an audience doesn't end when the film ends. The film must create conversation that lasts into the future. It must engage on an emotional and intellectual level."

The cast for Papou includes local, national and international actors.

It stars international screen actor Yorgo Voyagis (Zorba the Greek) and Evan Kole (The Avengers).

Of Kole, Zervos said he went through hundreds of children before casting him in the role.

Zervos said Kole thinks quick on his feet and is energetic.

"Working with children can be challenging, but the challenges are offset by the great reward on screen. Children can have a natural innocence that is magnetic to an audience and I think Evan is rife with this power," said Zervos.
The film has received $51,000 through a kickstarter campaign and nearly $55,000 in potential Michigan film and digital incentive rebates.
In connection with the film, Mother and Midwife has created 'Your Papou Story' on its Facebook page.  It's a place people fans of the film can put their own memories about grandfathers.  The film company said the story with the most 'likes' on Facebook by June will receive movie-related prizes.

Papou will be filmed in metro Detroit beginning in July.

Mother and Midwife is still taking applications for extras in the film.
