Michigan State holds Great Dairy Adventure

EAST LANSING, Mich. – The 15th annual Great Dairy Adventure was held Wednesday at Michigan State University in East Lansing.

More than 3,500 people, including children, teenagers, parents, grandparents, families, educators, day care providers and summer campers attended the free, family-oriented learning event organized by the state's dairy industry.
Participants engaged in a number of interactive activities, including milking a cow by hand, petting baby calves and grown cows, completing craft and hands-on activities, becoming a "Got Milk?" milk mustache celebrity, meeting and greeting Michigan State University (MSU) athletes who are present for autographs and photos, learning about dairy product nutrition and the process by which milk gets from the cow to the store. Learning stations covered topics ranging from how to milk a cow correctly to what cows eat. There will be numerous free dairy product samples, including milk, flavored milk, yogurt, cheese and ice cream.

The Great Dairy Adventure is an opportunity for children, families and educators to meet local dairy farmers, learn about farming firsthand, meet veterinarians and learn how they care for animals, and discover the importance of consuming dairy products as part of a complete and balanced diet. It's also a chance for dairy farmers and the dairy industry to share information on the work they're proud to do 365 days a year in order to feed local families.
