DETROIT -

The EMS and Emergency Preparedness Program are partnering with multiple fire, EMS and police departments to create an active shooter exercise.

The extensive exercise will take place at Henry Ford Wyandotte Hospital Thursday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will have an actual active shooter with simulation ammunition going through the hospital causing multiple casualties.

During the exercise the police departments will come into the hospital, look for and neutralize the "shooter" who will be imitated by an actual Detroit police officer.

At that point, the fire and EMS departments will come in to treat and transport patients, as well run a mass casualty incident. Students from local schools and colleges will be used as "victims" as a way to involve the community.

Due to recent events around the country, the EMS and Emergency Preparedness Program wants the community to know that hospitals are prepared to protect, treat and take care of patients should something like this ever occur in the community.
