New Year's resolution: Be a better recycler in 2013

As many people begin considering resolutions for the new year, there's one that often slips between the cracks: recycling. 

Recycling is proven to reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills and incinerators, conserves natural resources such as timber, water and minerals, as well as prevents pollution caused by reducing the need to collect new raw materials.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, 54.2 percent of the things we throw away go into landfills, and only 34.1 percent is recycled or composted.
