Petie the dog's owner thanks MHS with check

Pooch Made Trek From Tennessee To Michigan

DETROIT – Petie, the Jack Russell terrier who captured hearts in Michigan and Tennessee, is back home.

The owner of Petie, the Jack Russell terrier who captured hearts in Michigan and Tennessee, sent a $200 check to the Michigan Humane Society as a thank you.

After three months and hundreds of miles, the 4-year-old pooch completed his trek from Michigan to Tennessee on Thursday.

Jack Arrighi of Erin, Tenn., said he left Petie in his backyard in July while he went out, but Petie was gone when he got home.

A homeowner in Rochester Hills, about 20 miles north of Detroit, saw Petie last week in his backyard and took him to a Humane Society animal care center

The Humane Society was able to track down Arrighi thanks to the microchip.

Arrighi mailed a $200 check to the MHS Tuesday.

A happy ending to this lost-dog story couldn't have come at a better time for Arrighi. His wife died two weeks ago. He believes she somehow played a part in bringing Petie home.

"My wife passed away on the the 12th of this month," he said. "That was terrible. I can't handle that very good."

Arrighi saw Petey for the first time thanks to the pooch's appearance on Local 4 News Morning.

Watch:

Volunteer Nancy Greiser and her friend drove Petie 1,100 miles, round trip.

Greiser fosters dogs from the Michigan Humane Society. Of her three beagles, two were fosters that somehow never managed to make it back to the shelter.

She is more than happy to give her time to see Petey gets home to Tennessee.

"This is one of those stories, where, how can you not feel compassion?" Greiser said.
