Restaurant night debuts at Flagship Academy Summer School on Thursday

Students created a 4-course meal for anyone with reservations

DETROIT – Summer school may typically seem a bore, but students at Flagship Academy Summer School have been busy.

The students have spent the last five weeks learning cooking skills in preparation for Thursday's restaurant night.

Their gym will turn into a cafe, and people who have made reservations will be served a four-course meal.

Not only do students have a chance to cook for their families and friends, but all the summer classes come together to put on the night.

"In technology class they are working on creating a menu. In art class they are working on a logo," principal of the academy, Faren D'abell, said.

Some of the food being used for the night has been grown from the school's garden, which students have helped plant.

"We have squash that we are going to use for sauteed vegetables; herbs that will be used in our beef stew," D'abell said.

Any family or friends in the neighborhood are welcome to make a reservation and enjoy what the students have prepared.
