DETROIT – Southwest Detroit will come alive with runners and others marking the Day of the Dead.
The Run of the Dead 5K and 10K races will be held Saturday morning through two of the area's historic cemeteries, Holy Cross and Woodmere. The event is intended to celebrate the Mexican holiday honoring family and friends who have died.
The event also includes youth dancers and mariachi performers. Participants are encouraged to wear traditional face-paint, flowers and attire.
A tribute to dead loved ones will take place after the race as part of an annual celebration.
The event is hosted by the Southwest Detroit Business Association. The area has a large Mexican-American and Hispanic population.
