SOUTHFIELD, Mich. - St. David's Episcopal Church is hosting the inaugural "End Homelessness Now Fun Run and Walk" to benefit South Oakland Shelter (SOS) on Sunday. The run starts and ends at St. David's, 16200 W. Twelve Mile Road.
The goal of the race is to raise $100,000 to support SOS's housing solutions for former clients and to raise awareness to the plight of displaced people in Oakland County.
The event will include a one mile fun run or walk starting at 8 a.m., followed by a 5K event at 8:30 a.m. and a 10K event event at 8:35 a.m. The course starts at Twelve Mile Road, runs through the neighborhood up to Thirteen Mile Road and returns back to the St. David's parish campus.
Anyone can join the event by volunteering, spectating, or sponsoring. Afterwards, St. David's will host a pancake breakfast and interfaith prayer service.
The event will raise funds for SOS's housing programs, which combine rental assistance with in-home supportive services to ensure that those who enter the shelter have a realistic pathway from the street to a higher quality of life and a place to call home.
