Two friends are about to take a take the journey of the their lives, climbing Mount Kilimanjaro together to raise money for children's charities.
Metro Detroiters will get a chance to support their climb and step back into the 80s this weekend.
Friends Patti Nicklowitz and Renae Johnson plan to leave for Mount Kilimanjaro in mid-February for the seven-day journey.
Nicklowitz, who is from Livonia will be raising money for Bridgepointe, a group that partners with schools all over the metro Detroit area. They organize social, educational, life-enhancing events and provide life essentials to the metro Detroit community.
Johnson, who is from Traverse City, will be raising funds for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
Mount Kilimanjaro is on Tanzania's northern border in Africa. the two women have been training to climb the 20,000 foot mountain. Nearly every person who has reached the Uhuru Peak of the mount has recorded his or her thoughts in a book stored at the top.
The two women are hosting a fundraiser Saturday February 2 in Novi to help raise money or their causes. It is an 80's Bash at Salon One located at 43600 Grand River Avenue. Tickets to the event are $50. The fun starts at 7 p.m.
People can dress in their favorite 80's Celebrity, Movie Character, or Musician or just pull out some of their favorite 80's fashions.
The 80s Bash will include food, soft drinks, beer and wine, DJ and dancing, auction items and raffles.
