BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. – Breast cancer survivors with great success stories – and a desire to dance – are invited to audition at Fred Astaire Dance Studio May 17th for a unique opportunity to perform while raising awareness and funds for breast cancer.
A national partnership between Fred Astaire Dance Studio and The Pink Fund will shine attention on survivors' stories and the benefits of exercise like ballroom dance in a unique performance featuring breast cancer survivors this fall. The collaborative team is looking for a few more survivors to share their stories while learning to dance courtesy of free lessons from the only Fred Astaire franchise in Michigan.

"This partnership is a fun and creative way to build awareness of breast cancer and the need to support survivors," says Evan Mountain, owner of Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Bloomfield Hills, with his wife Lada. " It's our second year partnering together and we are excited to expand the collaboration nationwide while doing something significant to raise the bar on breast cancer fundraising and awareness-building."
Dancers from the first performance last year will "judge" this casting call on May 17th along with Mountain and Molly MacDonald, The Pink Fund founder. Winners must sign a release agreeing to use their name and story in event promotions; winners are also expected to try to raise a $1,000 contribution for The Pink Fund. This year's event takes place October 2nd.
It's ok if survivors haven't done ballroom dance; Mountain is donating eight complimentary lessons to each winner. What's more, a dazzling costumer will be provided to them through a collaboration with Detroit Garment Group and StyleLine Magazine Editor Karen Buscemi.
Pink Fund helps to meet basic needs and decrease stress levels, helping breast cancer patients strengthen their fight to improve survivorship outcomes and quality of life. For more information, visit www.thepinkfund.org.
