DETROIT -

Chilly fall days and cold evenings have arrived in southeastern Michigan. For those who are challenged to meet basic needs, a winter coat is an unaffordable luxury.

Tapper’s Diamonds & Fine Jewelry seeks to help local residents stay warm this winter by hosting its annual Coat Drive.

The Tapper’s 22nd Annual Coat Drive will be held now through Nov. 15. Tapper’s, in partnership with Stanley Morgan, will accept cash donations for new coats, and gently used or new coats, hats, mittens and blankets at locations throughout Detroit.

“Each year Tapper’s collects about 2,500 coats, new hats, gloves and blankets and more than $20,000 to purchase new coats for those in need,” says Steven Tapper, custom designer and vice president of Tapper’s Diamonds & Fine Jewelry. “We feel strongly about giving back to our community and with the support of local businesses, our generous residents and customers, we hope to make this our most successful effort to date,” he says.

Drop off bins are located at the following locations:

Tapper’s, Orchard Mall, 6337 Orchard Lake Road, West Bloomfield, MI 48322, Phone: 248-932-7700

Tapper’s & Marlee’s, Twelve Oaks Mall, 27716 Novi Road, Novi, Michigan 48377, Phone: 248-465-1800

Tapper’s, Somerset Collection, 2800 West Big Beaver Road, Troy, MI 48084, Phone: 248-649-2000

Coats and warm winter items in all shapes are sizes are welcome. Tapper’s handles distributing winter items, free of charge, directly to local residents in need and the organizations that support them.

Tapper’s will also accept cash donations that will be used toward the purchase of brand-new coats, at or below wholesale prices and has established a kick-starter fund. A $20 donation will provide a child with a coat and gloves. It is estimated this effort has provided more than 38,200 winter items to metro-Detroit area families throughout the years.

“The gift of warmth and comfort has more meaning and value than we can imagine,” says Tapper. “We urge everyone to share in this community experience that will change lives.”
