SHELBY TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Locally made, organic ingredients, and customized products for your skin. That’s what “Choices Organic Bath & Body” in Shelby Township stands by.
“Our containers and jars start empty,” said Helga Soave, owner of Choices. “We have a base product and then add extracts to what your skin needs.”
Soave’s goal is to change the way women and men look at skin care. Her store on Hayes Road near 21 Mile Road is full of naturally made soaps, moisturizers, essential oils and face washes that can be customized to problem areas.
“We can add extracts for anti-aging, acne prevention," Soave said. "We can even add oils to make it the scent you want. It’s almost like you become a chemist.”
Soave is from Germany, but has called Michigan her home for the last 30 years where she’s been an esthetician.
“Growing up, I went on to study chemistry and was always aware of the diversity nature offered,” she said. “I started to see the multitude of skin issues and I tried to think of a better way to treat them.”
Soave wanted to cut out the chemicals, dyes, fragrances and dangerous ingredients that saturate the beauty industry.
“Nature is amazing, our bodies are incredible. We can heal ourselves and we can turn back the clock with the help of nature”, she said.
Here’s how it works:
Step #1. With the help of our skin care professionals, choose one of our naturally formulated lotions, body butters, face moisturizers, shower gels, body sprays or scrubs (what they call ‘base’ products).
Step #2. Next, choose the fragrances you most identify with, as well as any other essential, active or botanical oils to fit your skincare needs.
Step #3. Finally, they blend the hand-picked essential oils and botanicals with your base product, creating a body blend that is uniquely your own.
And if you think customized products mean a big price tag, think again. Helga keeps just about every product below $30.
“Our goal is to feed your face with all things good,” said Soave.
