Visitation Friday for legendary crime writer Elmore Leonard

Funeral will be held Saturday

BIRMINGHAM, Mich. – A funeral mass will be held Saturday for Elmore Leonard, the award-winning mystery writer whose snappy dialogue, misfit characters and laconic sense of humor produced such popular works as "Get Shorty," "Hombre," "Fifty-Two Pickup" and "Out of Sight."

The cause of death was not given, but Leonard had suffered a stroke two weeks ago. According to his website, the author died at his home in Bloomfield Village, Mich.

Family and friends of Leonard may visit Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, located 1368 N. Crooks Road between 14-15 Mile Roads, from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday.

A funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday at 11 a.m. at Holy Name Church, located at 630 Harmon in Birmingham. Friends may visit at the church beginning at 10 a.m.
