Volunteers needed for Junior Olympic Games in Metro Detroit

YPSILANTI, Mich. – Metro Detroit will be hosting the Junior Olympic Games at the end of the month and the event is in search for volunteers.

The AAU Junior Olympic Games are the largest national multi-sport event for youth in the U.S. The event runs from July 26 to August 5.

Eastern Michigan University’s Rynearson Stadium will house track and field, Oakland University will host swimming events, the Legacy Center in Brighton will have football and Detroit Country Day will host field hockey. Events at the Suburban Collection Showplace in Novi include:

  • powerlifting
  • weightlifting
  • boys and girls wrestling
  • taekwondo
  • karate
  • trampoline and tumbling
  • cheerleading
  • jump rope
  • baton twirling
  • sport stacking

“There’s so much training that goes into this event,” Marty Dobek of the Detroit Sports Commission said. “We just want to get the word out to let people know there’s a lot of opportunities to help out with the event.”
