Children pre-selected to receive gifts based on their family's financial need

DETROIT – Wayne County Sheriff Benny N. Napoleon and his deputies are expected to deliver gifts to about 100 needy children on Christmas Eve.

Those children were pre-selected to receive gifts based on their family's financial need, officials said.

"There's no better feeling than knowing you've done something to make a child smile," said Napoleon.

Proceeds from the Sheriff's annual "No Child Without a Christmas" fundraiser and donations pay for the toys, clothing and personal care items.

Organizers of Tuesday's event said nearly all of the gifts come from the children's wish lists.

Napoleon thanked all who contributed, including the co-sponsors of the Goodfellows fundraiser, Local 3317 and WC DSA/POAM, officials said.
